Ben Aldridge is a bestselling author and international keynote speaker who helps audiences build resilience, navigate uncertainty, and rethink their relationship with discomfort. Ben’s work grew from his own experience with severe anxiety and panic attacks.
His talks combine philosophy, psychology, and lived experience to deliver practical tools for modern life. Drawing on Stoicism, behavioural science, and real-world experimentation, Ben turns big ideas into engaging stories and actionable insights that resonate long after the event.
Ben is the author of How to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable, How to Control the Uncontrollable, Seriously Happy, and the Get Out of Your Comfort Zone challenge cards. His work has been translated into 11 languages, appeared on bestseller lists, and been shortlisted for the 2025 Information Book Awards.
Searching for a different way to respond to fear, he became fascinated by an ancient Greek idea known as askesis – a practice used by philosophers such as the Stoics and the Cynics. Rather than avoiding difficulty, these thinkers deliberately embraced voluntary challenges in order to train the mind, build resilience, and strengthen character.
Inspired by this philosophy, Ben began a year-long personal experiment in facing discomfort head-on. He set himself a series of unusual challenges designed to stretch his limits and change his relationship with fear. These ranged from ice baths and public embarrassment to running marathons, learning lockpicking, climbing mountains, solving the Rubik’s Cube, walking barefoot in winter, and even walking a pet banana in public.
Over time, this process helped transform Ben’s relationship with anxiety. By repeatedly stepping into discomfort, he began to build confidence, self-trust, and a new understanding of what the mind is capable of handling.
The lessons from this journey became the foundation for his books and keynote talks, where he now shares practical ways audiences can rethink fear, resilience, and personal growth.
