One of the BBC’s key commentators and analysts for Rugby Union and Rugby League, his distinctive voice, insightful intelligent opinion and genial demeanour are loved and admired by millions of viewers. He is always thoroughly prepared and consistently delivers a high level of comment and is always entertaining.
Jonathan is a busy man; A columnist with the Independent on Sunday, the co-host of a chat show in addition to being a regular on the speaking circuit. His speeches and presentations that cover areas such as; ‘Handling Pressure’, ‘Attitude’ and ‘Instinct & Genius’ go down very well with audiences.
Born in Trimsaran, Carmarthenshire, Jonathan started his rugby career playing for his local village team. He went on to make his name at club level with Neath and Llanelli before wearing the revered Welsh number 10 jersey. In his Test debut at Cardiff Arms Park against England in 1985, he put in a Man of the Match performance scoring two tries. He went on to win 37 Rugby Union caps for Wales.
Moving to Rugby League he played for Widnes and Warrington, Great Britain and Wales, as well as playing with Australian teams the Canterbury Bulldogs and the North Queensland Cowboys.
He finished his rugby career playing for Cardiff RFC
