Starting a business at the age of 17 whilst studying for his A’ levels was a steep learning curve Dan admits, however he worked hard and is proud of his core product – a recruitment app that connects employers with teenagers who are unsold on the benefits of university.
His mission is to be the next LinkedIn, but for young students. He says. “There are recruitment apps for graduates but no one else has a very slick and sophisticated app dedicated to the school leaver market. “ Applicants are encouraged to upload video CVs onto their app profiles as Dan understands that recruitment is going digital. He believes that it’s much easier for employers to get an impression of a candidate through a one-minute video compared to a written CV.
Young Professionals also stages structured career events across the UK to introduce school and college leavers to a wealth of sectors and provide a full agenda of workshops, keynote presentations and networking. Dan has created a network of more than 2,500 schools and colleges, providing a marketing and communications outreach of at least 500,000 students.
Founded on an entrepreneurial scholarship, Young Professionals made £45,000 last year, plus a £50,000 investment. Like any entrepreneur, Dan wants more and is looking to scale up and grow his company and seeking an additional £250k of investment. He recently secured a partnership deal with a FTSE 100 company that enabled him to work from its HQ based on the Strand. At the same time, Young Professionals pledged to inspire and reach out to two million students by 2022. So far it has reached out to 560,000 with the help of the 30 brands it is working with. “
A young role model for entrepreneurship, Dan believes that the government should do more to support students in 6th form who want to go into business, he is also currently lobbying Government on changing a legislation with regards to business banking systems.
