Geoff Hurst secured his place among the World Cup greats when he became the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final (the feat has not been repeated since).
Sir Geoff Hurst MBE speaks on the following topics:
England Football Legend and World Cup Winner, Sir Geoff Hurst secured his place among the World Cup greats when he became the first and only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final in 1966. After this, Hurst continued to play for West Ham, Stoke City and England and was still an internationally-feared striker when he was picked for the England squad for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
During the six years between 1966 and 1972 Geoff became one of the highest paid footballers in the UK. He was briefly Player/Manager for Telford United and coached in Kuwait. His role as assistant coach to the England National Team was followed by two years as Chelsea manager, and then a momentous career decision – to leave football.
With no commercial experience, Geoff went on a course to learn the basics of selling and gain knowledge of the insurance industry, he then went onto become a successful businessman. The man that inspired the famous quote “They think it’s all over…” Geoff is an influential and motivational keynote speaker and is actively involved in a number of programmes aimed at encouraging kids to play football and be active, he is also a Director of Football for McDonalds UK. He has helped to create 10,000 new football coaches across the UK.
Sir Geoff was awarded an MBE in 1977 and in 1998 was knighted for 30 years of service and contribution to football. He was inducted in the English Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and in 2009 football fans across the UK voted for him to receive the Lifetime Achievement award at the International Football Awards.
