November 25, 1984, was a historic day for Midge Ure and all of pop music, as 36 artists by the collective name Band Aid gathered at SARM Studios in West London under Midge’s production. They recorded Do They Know It’s Christmas?, a song he had just written with Bob Geldof as the industry’s heartfelt and eloquent contribution to Ethiopian famine relief. The unstoppable emotion engendered by the project led to Live Aid, the summer 1985 global concert that, all exaggeration aside, spoke for a generation.

Midge was also involved in organising the Live 8 concerts with Bob Geldof with the aim of pressuring G8 leaders into following his recipe for ending world poverty. In 2005 he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to music and charity.

Midge Ure talks candidly about his career and what Live Aid and the Live 8 concerts mean to him. He explains how the five Live 8 concerts were timed to coincide with the July 6-8 G8 economic summit in Perthshire, Scotland  and how musicians hoped to convince the eight world leaders to focus on fighting poverty in the third world.

A charismatic and affable personality, Midge speaks emotionally and openly in his moving presentations.  He also performs acoustic versions of some of his classic songs if requested leaving audiences well and truly inspired and entertained.

Midge Ure is a brilliant story teller who using his amazing life story to illustrate specific themes. He touches on his working class roots in Glasgow, his work as a singer for the last 30 years and the incredible impact of Live Aid. His story and anecdotes are highly inspirational and entertaining. Some themes he has addressed for clients include: ‘Bringing Business and Ideals Together’, Teamwork and Winning” and “Life and Times”. This is a client’s testimonial after Midge Ure’s speech entitled: “Working Together towards a Common Cause”

“Midge was able to connect with our audience through the content of his speech and through using a language common to other speaker sessions at our event. This made Midge’s speech particularly engaging for our audience. It was fantastic how he was able to reinforce our messages about like-minded people and making a difference.

Midge had a very natural style, which our audience appreciated. He came across as honest and straight talking. He spoke from the heart; and used humour and wit, which made his speech particularly compelling to listen to.”
