A member of the Great Britain National Squad since 1996, Chris has won everything there is to win on the track, including Olympic, World, Commonwealth and European gold. He holds three World Records, Team Sprint, 500m and sea-level Kilo. He also holds Olympic and Commonwealth records in the 200m Time Trial, Team Sprint and Kilo. He passed into Olympic history in 2008, winning three Gold medals in Beijing.

In addition to his sporting achievements, he has studied at St Andrews University and Edinburgh University where he graduated in 1999 with an Honours BSc in Applied Sports Science. He was voted BBC Scotland’s ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ twice. In 2005, he was awarded two Honorary Doctorates from Edinburgh and Heriot Watt Universities. That same year he was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

In May 2007 Chris travelled to La Paz, Bolivia in a bid to break the kilo world record, but on his second run he fell just five thousandths of a second outside the record time. He is the only person to have ridden two sub 60 second Kilos, achieved in successive days in La Paz. He went on to record the World Record 500m Time Trial.

In 2008, Chris won three World Championships including the Match Sprint, becoming the first GB rider since Reg Harris in 1954 to hold this title.

Chris was voted the BBC Sports Personality of 2008. In an emotional presentation, he received a 5 minute ovation from the packed house. Only one thing could top that. In the New Year’s Honours list, Chris was awarded a knighthood. Sir Christopher Hoy.
