Nick Boles MP

16th May, 2011
New Speaker

A rising star of British politics has just become one our latest speakers. He is Nick Boles MP, a rare breed of politician – someone who not only knows politics inside out, he also ran a business and knows what it is like to be on the receiving end of political decisions.

The man who led the process of drawing up the Conservative Party's detailed plans for Government, who masterminded an influential political think tank and wrote a revealing book about coalition Britain is highly sought after for events.

Talks include the Future of the coalition, Turning round a failing brand and opportunities for Britainplc – in particular what the Government needs to do to help British business exploit the new world order.

Nick immersed himself in politics early on and gained a first class degree at Magdalen College, Oxford before winning a scholarship leading to a Masters in Public Policy from the prestigious Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
It is therefore surprising that he founded a small DIY supply business and ran it for ten years before entering the political arena, initially with Westminster City Council and later as Member of Parliament for Grantham and Stamford constituency in Lincolnshire.

Before entering Parliament he set up the Policy Exchange which went on to become the most influential think tank on the centre right. He learned early on that politics is a tough business and failed at the first hurdle when he stood for Parliament in Hove. He spent the next two years planning the Tory come back and won a seat in May 2010 with a majority of over 15,000.
In the same year he published his first book, Which Way's Up? The future for coalition Britain and how to get there. His route to political stardom has started quickly with appointment as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Nick Gibb MP, the Minister of State for Schools.
